Who is my dental representative/network manager?

Our Dental Network Managers are available to answer your questions and support you and your staff. Their territory is designated by zip codes on the following islands: Oahu, Hawaii (Big Island), Maui, Kauai, Lanai, and Molokai. You can find your Dental Network Manager on our provider website.

How can I verify my patients’ benefits and eligibility?

You can find patient information and process claims reimbursement quickly and easily, including patient eligibility/benefits, patient history, preauthorization, electronic funds transfer (EFT), and electronic claim filing, through My Patients’ Benefits website.

You’ll need to have the following information on hand when creating an account:

National Provider Identifier (NPI) number. Depending on how you would like to set up your account, you can have a Type 2 (group practice) or Type 1 NPI (individual provider).
Provider Tax ID. This nine-digit number is required to file taxes with the Internal Revenue Service.

Steps to create an Account:

Visit MyDentalCoverage and select My Patients’ Benefits.
On the “Account Access” page, click Create an Account.
Follow the prompts and enter the details requested on each page until completion.

How do I register for HHIN access?

The Hawaii Healthcare Information Network (HHIN) is the state’s health data exchange. The system allows providers and practice staff to check eligibility and benefits for FEP Basic & Standard members. Log in at hhin.hmsa.com. Where can I find fee schedules?

You can find provider fee schedules for PPO, Costco, and Medicare Advantage plans on our website’s Fee Schedules and Benefit Matrices page.

Your Type 1 NPI (individual and unique to provider) is required for access. Entering a Type 2 NPI (group/organization) will result in an error message. You can verify your NPI information at the NPPES NPRI Registry website.

After entering your Type 1 NPI information in the designated box, please complete the verification prompts before clicking the button to view fee schedules.

Where can I find benefit matrices?

Benefit matrices for commercial PPO and ACA-Health Care Reform plans can be downloaded from our website’s Fee Schedules and Benefit Matrices page. Please follow the same steps necessary for accessing PPO, Costco, and Medicare Advantage plan fee schedules.

Why do I receive emails or letters asking to verify my online provider directory information?

We’re required by law to keep our provider directories up to date. At the start of every quarter, correspondence is emailed or mailed to all participating providers and practices reminding them to verify that their information is up to date. Also, your participation with us is promoted in our online provider directory. No action is necessary if the information listed online is correct.

Helpful hints for updating your provider information:

Avoid adding the following in any search box:

Middle names or initials.
Dental degrees, suffixes, and other titles.
Special characters of any kind, such as commas, periods, hyphens, etc. (-, &., #).

Select and specify a location drop-down option. This makes it easier for members to find your practice.

If changes are needed, please complete the appropriate status change form(s). You can find them on the Update your Status page of our website.

Where do I find more information about the new Medicare Advantage Network?

HMSA launched a limited Medicare Advantage Network beginning on Jan. 1, 2022. You can verify your current participation status in this network through our online provider directory. Enter the your (dentist’s) name, select “All Islands,” and choose “Akamai Advantage Dual Care PPO SNP” from the drop-down menu for “Select Plan Name.” You can learn more about the network by visiting the provider Medicare Advantage Network or Plans, Manuals, and Training pages of our website.

Who do I contact if I need 1099 form assistance?

If you need assistance with your 1099, please call 1 (866) 425-8275 toll-free. You’ll be connected to an automated answering system that can answer all commonly asked questions 24/7. If you need further assistance, you can also opt to speak with a live representative during business hours.
